The Dirty Dozen...and the Clean 15!
Buying organic can be expensive, I know, but we like to eat fresh fruits and vegetables year round - especially green salads. Since our climate doesn't allow for year-round gardening, I find myself shopping for organic produce at Fred Meyer where there is a decent selection (and they don't charge a whole lot more for organic). Additionally, our family is blessed to be a part of an organic produce co-op which not only keeps us supplied with fresh fruits and vegetables all year but also helps to keep the costs down.
For information on why you should even care about pesticides, what the difference between eating pesticide laden produce & organic is, and whether washing & peeling help (yes, they do), click here.
I strongly encourage all of my readers to consider what they're feeding themselves and their families; peruse the Dirty Dozen/Clean 15 list above, and make at least one change when you do your shopping next time. Your body will thank you for it!
