Meat bird day...

After 8.5 weeks...an empty poultry pen littered with fluffy white feathers...

Crates full of chickens and a very tired boy and girl...

Plucking out those last few feathers...
(notice the chicken foot sticking up from the bottom of the photo - eeewww!)

The next step? Off with their heads! And their feet...

Father and son -- chicken farmers :)

The black writing on that bag says, "8.55" - we had the biggest chicken! For comparison, the *puny* Foster Farms chicken in the photo below weighs just under 4.5 pounds.

In case you're wondering, we did NOT keep track of how much this little meat chicken experiment cost, so we have no idea how much they cost us per pound (surely much, much more than store bought). What we do know is that it was a good experience for our family even though keeping them fed, watered, and moving their pen twice daily was a LOT of hard work. Whether or not we'll do this again next year is yet to be decided, however, we'll be cooking one of them up on Monday and will find out how they taste. Chicken anyone? Cluck, cluck :)
