Joy of every longing heart...

Come, Thou long-expected Jesus,
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us;
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel's Strength and Consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear Desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

~Charles Wesley, 1744

Wesley's glorious hymn, written in 1744, was inspired by Haggai 2:7.
And I will shake all nations, and the Desire of Nations shall come and I will fill this house with glory," saith the Lord of Hosts.

May you find your rest in HIM, the Desire of Nations, as you celebrate this second Sunday of the Advent season!

  4. Charles Wesley made a priceless contribution to Christendom with his lyrics. Thanks for pointing out this lesser listened to and lesser sung hymn.
