Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks;
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
~I Thessalonians 5:16-18
This past weekend we had the pleasure of attending the 7th Annual Christian Heritage Family Discipleship & Homeschooling Conference in Redmond, Washington. What a blessing!
To sit under the teaching of Voddie Baucham, who delivered four keynotes and spoke at two additional workshops, was convicting and inspiring. Voddie has a heart for the gospel to be made evident in the lives of home educators and implored us to, above all, teach the gospel to our children -- to teach them to pursue God, to know God, to love God, and to make Him known! He is the reason we teach them to read, to write, to understand math and science and history. Oh my goodness, such good stuff!
Phillip Telfer from MediaTalk101 spoke at several challenging workshops about media and its influence on us and our children (did you know that the average American child has over 53 hours of screen time each week?). These timely messages were directed at helping us biblically discern how to best use today's media rather than allowing it to take over our lives.
Allen Wolfe, author of Balancing the Sword, encouraged us with an excellent message about retaining a godly influence in the lives of our children multigenerationally by loving them, "make sure that everything you express to them drips with love--the love of God."
We've never been a "vacationy" family, but getting away for a weekend full of encouragement such as we enjoy each spring at the annual Christian Heritage conference has become an annual booster shot and the highlight of our school year. Would love to meet some of you at next year's conference (April 25 - 27, 2013) at which Vision Forum's Doug Phillips will be the keynote speaker!
Join me for Gratituesday at Heavenly Homemakers :)
